The Challenge
At 12:06 on 7th March, an urgent operational requirement landed with The Box Group. The client, operating under defence procurement frameworks, needed a substantial fleet of generators and Environmental Control Units deployed to RAF Fairford as a matter of operational priority.
The request carried a critical constraint. Unlike conventional temporary infrastructure projects, this client’s procurement rules were unambiguous: all equipment had to be purchased outright. Hire or rental, regardless of timeline, was not permitted under their mandate. Standard procurement timelines, however, are incompatible with the urgency of operational requirements.
Our Solution
- Immediate deployment of loan stock from existing rental inventory to site, providing full operational capability from day one, without any compromise to the client’s purchase-only procurement policy.
- Parallel procurement tracking: formal purchase orders were processed simultaneously, with the loan stock always intended as a bridge, not a permanent solution.
- Seamless on-site swap: once purchased equipment was procured, loan stock was replaced in full, commissioned and signed off with zero disruption to client operations.
- End-to-end coordination: The Box Group managed logistics, procurement, and delivery across the full nine-day window.
