Project Overview
Clients & Event: The Malachite Group & Made of You – Afro Nation 2026
Location: Praia da Rocha Beach, Portimão, Portugal
Event Dates: 3rd – 5th July 2026
Attendance: 38,000 festival-goers over three days
Coverage Area: 13,000 sqm of temporary road infrastructure
Challenge: Creating heavy-duty beach access for construction vehicles and festival infrastructure
The Challenge
Praia da Rocha needed to support articulated lorries and heavy cranes on sand entirely unsuited to such loads, so that staging, catering, and event infrastructure could be built and operated safely across a five-week window. Delivering the volume of trackway required meant moving 22 full truckloads across Europe on customs carnets within a tight installation timeline, all while contending with summer heat and the practical constraints of a remote beach location.
Our Solution
The Box Group deployed a comprehensive temporary road system combining two specialised products:
- Multi-product deployment: SignaRoad (1,600 panels / 8,512 m²) for primary access routes, combined with Preco-Track (660 panels / 3,960 m²) — trialed for the first time in low-traffic areas — plus a Stadia XHD stillage, totaling approx. 13,000 m² across the majority of Praia da Rocha.
- Rapid mobilisation: The Box Group responded as soon as the event was confirmed, coordinating 22 full truckloads across Europe under carnet within a tight installation window.
- Extended in-situ deployment: Trackway remained down for 5 weeks, enabling staging, catering, and wider event infrastructure to be built, operated, and dismantled around it.
Outcome
- All operational objectives met — trackway performed as required throughout install, the five-week deployment, and de-rig.
- Preco-Track successfully trialled for suitability in low-traffic areas, proving effective for future deployments.
- 22 full truckloads delivered across Europe within a tight timeline, with no disruption to the wider event build.
- Beach handed back to Portimão Municipal Council on schedule, on the morning of 12 July.
Long-term Partnership
The project’s outstanding success has secured Box Group’s role in the festival’s long-term partnership, cementing our position as the trusted temporary infrastructure partner for this world-class event.
Environmental Responsibility
Our temporary road system provided complete beach protection, ensuring the natural environment remained undamaged while supporting extensive festival construction activities.
