Location

Rolling Loud and Afro Nation 2024 are Europe’s largest music beach festivals, bringing top-tier artists and 120,000 people to the sun-kissed beaches of Praia da Rocha, Portugal each year.

The challenge

Holding a world-class music festival on a sandy beach presents unique challenges, as we experienced during last year’s install. Shifting sands and logistical complexities could have caused major logistical issues for the Afro Nation 2024 event. The beach had to be transformed into a stable platform capable of supporting massive stages, heavy equipment, and thousands of music fans.

Our solution

Overcoming the logistical challenges with limited transport options on the beach was paramount. Our team meticulously planned the transportation and installation of over 10,983m² of SignaRoad composite mats. Navigating a series of regulations and coordinating between our UK and European teams, we ensured a seamless delivery and deployment. The site demanded precision, with our trackway supporting everything from articulated lorries to a 120-tonne crane. Through meticulous planning and around-the-clock efforts, we successfully transformed the beach into a functional event space.

Outcomes

Our knowledge and previous experience from last year’s Afro Nation event, dynamic thinking and can-do approach came together to transform the beach of Praia da Rocha into a festival-ready venue, ultimately helping turn this event into another a triumph. Overcoming logistical challenges and securing essential equipment during the Summer peak season were once again crucial to the event’s success. The result? A satisfied client and a testament to our capabilities. The organisers couldn’t have been happier.
